Tesla’s latest Full Self-Driving software is beginning to reach Canadian vehicles just as the company puts the technology in front of more drivers through hands-on demonstrations. The rollout of software version 2026.26.6.5 brings FSD (Supervised) v14.3.8 to compatible newer-hardware vehicles in North America, while eligible older Tesla hardware is receiving a separate v14.1 release.
The timing is notable in Atlantic Canada. Tesla’s Dieppe, New Brunswick location hosted the first session in a series of Full Self-Driving workshops on August 30, with additional events scheduled for September. The combination captures where Tesla’s driver-assistance strategy currently stands: increasingly capable software delivered remotely, more opportunities for owners to experience it, but a system that still requires continuous human supervision and does not make the vehicle autonomous.
A New FSD Build Is Reaching Canadian Teslas
Tesla software version 2026.26.6.5 began appearing in North America in late August, combining features from the company’s broader summer software package with newer Full Self-Driving releases. Teslascope, which tracks software installations reported across participating vehicles, recorded the build in Canada on August 26. Its early installation sample showed Canadian vehicles representing about 4% of the tracked rollout, although that figure reflects the service’s own dataset rather than the percentage of all Teslas in Canada that have received the update.
The rollout also illustrates how differently modern vehicle software arrives compared with a conventional model-year update. An owner may park a Tesla with one driving-assistance build and discover another available after the vehicle connects to Wi-Fi. Tesla typically distributes software progressively rather than delivering it simultaneously to every compatible vehicle. That allows the company to monitor deployment while owners with different vehicles, configurations and hardware generations can receive updates on somewhat different schedules.
FSD v14.3.8 Focuses Heavily on Difficult Driving Situations
For vehicles fitted with Tesla’s newer AI4 hardware, the 2026.26.6.5 release includes FSD (Supervised) v14.3.8. Tesla’s release notes describe changes to the neural-network vision system intended to improve recognition in low-visibility conditions and unusual situations, including complex traffic lights, emergency vehicles, school buses, small animals and uncommon objects. The company also says additional reinforcement-learning training was used to address difficult real-world driving scenarios and improve behaviour around lane positioning, cut-ins and right-of-way conflicts.
Tesla additionally claims a rewrite of parts of its AI compiler and runtime produced roughly a 20% improvement in reaction speed. That is a company-reported software improvement, rather than the result of an independent road test, but it shows where development effort is being concentrated. FSD has increasingly become less about executing ordinary highway lane changes and more about handling the unpredictable situations that make city streets difficult: temporary obstacles, uncertain road geometry and human drivers who do not behave perfectly.
Dieppe Is Turning the Software Update Into a Driving Lesson
Tesla’s Dieppe location at 477 Paul Street is providing a more physical introduction to software that normally arrives invisibly over the air. Its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) Workshop series began with an August 30 session, with additional workshops scheduled for September 13 and September 27 at 1 p.m. Tesla says an advisor will demonstrate how to enable FSD, enter a destination and choose parking preferences before showing how the technology operates on roads and highways.
That format can be valuable because many of FSD’s controls and limitations are difficult to communicate through a software-release screen alone. A driver watching the vehicle negotiate an intersection or select a lane can see both what the system does confidently and where human judgment remains necessary. Tesla explicitly warns participants that the vehicle is not autonomous and that the driver must remain attentive and prepared to intervene. Space at the workshops is limited, making the New Brunswick sessions a relatively small but unusually hands-on piece of the Canadian rollout.
“Supervised” Remains the Most Important Word in the Name
Despite Tesla’s Full Self-Driving branding, the company describes the Canadian product as an advanced driver-assistance system that requires an attentive driver. Tesla says motorists must keep their attention on the road and be prepared to take control. The company does not describe the currently available customer system as an autonomous-driving product, and the “Supervised” label has become increasingly prominent as FSD capabilities have expanded.
That distinction also aligns with Transport Canada’s description of the technology currently available to consumers. Federal guidance says commercially available self-driving vehicles are not yet on Canadian roads and that existing driver-assistance systems do not replace the driver. Vehicles sold today can include SAE Level 2 capabilities that simultaneously assist with steering and acceleration or braking, but the human remains responsible for monitoring the driving environment. In practical terms, an FSD-equipped Tesla may perform much of a trip’s steering and navigation, yet responsibility for recognizing danger and intervening still rests with the person behind the wheel.
Trials and Monthly Access Make FSD Easier to Experience
Tesla has reduced the commitment required for Canadian owners who want to try FSD without purchasing permanent access. Tesla Canada currently lists Full Self-Driving (Supervised) as available through a $99-per-month subscription for eligible vehicles. Owners can subscribe through the Tesla app or the vehicle touchscreen, although compatibility and the appropriate software version remain necessary. Tesla also encourages vehicles to remain connected to Wi-Fi so newer software can be received promptly.
New Tesla customers may have another route into the system. The company offers qualifying Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y and Cybertruck vehicles delivered directly by Tesla a 30-day FSD trial. Tesla has also offered complimentary v14 trials to eligible owners in Canada and several other North American markets once compatible software is installed. These programs turn FSD from an abstract option on a specification sheet into something owners can evaluate during everyday commutes, parking manoeuvres and familiar local routes before deciding whether continuing access is worthwhile.
Canadian Regulators Are Preparing for More Automation
Canada’s regulatory framework is evolving alongside increasingly capable driver-assistance systems. Transport Canada’s Automated and Connected Vehicle Safety Framework says the vehicles commercially available in the country today largely occupy SAE Levels 0 through 2, meaning the human driver remains responsible even when steering, acceleration and braking are assisted. That creates an important boundary between today’s supervised products and future automated-driving systems designed to perform the complete driving task under specified conditions.
Regulators are already considering what those future vehicles will require. In March 2026, Transport Canada opened consultation on a proposed United Nations Global Technical Regulation for automated driving systems. The draft framework addresses areas including safety management, performance of the dynamic driving task, human-machine interaction, testing, safety cases and post-deployment monitoring. Tesla’s current Canadian FSD rollout therefore sits in a transitional period: consumer vehicles are gaining substantially more automated capability, while regulators are simultaneously constructing rules for technologies that could eventually operate without the same level of human supervision.
Hardware 3 and AI4 Owners Are Not Getting the Same FSD
The newest Tesla software number does not necessarily mean every vehicle receives identical Full Self-Driving capabilities. Vehicles equipped with newer AI4 hardware are receiving FSD v14.3.8 through the 2026.26.6.5 branch, while many older Hardware 3 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles are moving to a separate v14.1-based release. That version has been described as a lighter implementation that carries over improvements from Tesla’s newer-generation FSD development without requiring the same computing platform.
The Hardware 3 release still includes meaningful behavioural changes. Release information describes improvements to merges and forks, handling around pedestrians and traffic lights, responses to vehicles cutting in, lane centring, steering smoothness and parking behaviour. It also incorporates newer concepts such as arrival options and adjustable speed profiles. For Canadian owners, the split matters because two otherwise similar-looking Teslas may behave differently after an update depending on the computer installed years earlier at the factory. Software capability is increasingly being shaped by hardware generation as much as vehicle model.
Tesla Is Making FSD More Visible to Owners
Tesla is also giving drivers more tools to see how they are actually using the technology. The 2026.26.6.5 software family includes access to Self-Driving Stats through compatible versions of the Tesla mobile app, allowing owners to review information associated with their assisted-driving use. Combined with demonstration drives and workshops such as those in Dieppe, the feature makes FSD less of a background setting and more of a measurable part of the ownership experience.
That visibility may matter as Tesla tries to broaden familiarity with increasingly sophisticated driver assistance. A software description can explain neural networks or reaction-time improvements, but a supervised trip through a familiar interchange provides a much clearer impression of what has changed. The New Brunswick events therefore represent more than a local dealership activity. They show how the FSD rollout is increasingly combining remote software deployment with education, trials, statistics and in-person demonstrations. The technology is becoming more capable, but Tesla’s own instructions still leave one responsibility unchanged: the human driver remains in charge.
