Chinese EV Maker Says 270 Km of Range Can Be Added in 10 Minutes on New SUV

Electric-vehicle charging stops keep getting shorter on paper, and China’s latest family SUV is pushing that trend further. Arcfox, the electric-vehicle brand owned by state-backed BAIC Group, has launched the Alpha T7 with a claimed ability to add 270 kilometres of driving range in just 10 minutes under fast-charging conditions.

The figure is attached to the battery-electric Alpha T7’s 800-volt architecture, while the longest-range version carries a claimed 715-kilometre CLTC rating. Those numbers arrive alongside unusually aggressive pricing, a large five-seat cabin and optional Huawei driver-assistance technology. The combination shows how quickly expectations are rising in China’s crowded EV market, where long range and rapid charging increasingly have to come without a luxury-car price.

The Headline Number Is 270 Km in 10 Minutes

Arcfox says the battery-electric Alpha T7 can recover 270 kilometres of rated driving range from a 10-minute fast-charging session. The SUV uses an 800-volt high-voltage electrical platform with silicon-carbide technology, an architecture increasingly adopted by Chinese manufacturers trying to reduce charging times. Chinese automotive outlet AutoHome also reports a 30% to 80% charging time of roughly 15 minutes for the vehicle under suitable fast-charging conditions.

That does not mean every Alpha T7 will gain exactly 270 kilometres whenever it is plugged in. Charging power varies with battery temperature, state of charge, charger output and environmental conditions. Automakers normally quote rapid-charging performance under conditions designed to keep the battery inside its strongest charging window. Still, a 10-minute claim matters because it changes the conversation around road-trip charging. A stop resembling a coffee break becomes much easier to fit into an ordinary journey than the longer charging sessions associated with earlier generations of EVs.

An 800-Volt Platform Is Doing Much of the Heavy Lifting

The 800-volt system is a central piece of the Alpha T7’s pitch. Higher-voltage architectures can transfer substantial amounts of electrical power while requiring less current than a lower-voltage system delivering the same power. In practical vehicle design, that can reduce electrical losses and heat while allowing manufacturers to pursue much higher DC fast-charging rates. It is one reason 800-volt hardware has moved from expensive performance EVs into increasingly affordable Chinese models.

Arcfox combines that platform with CATL battery cells across the Alpha T7 range. The battery-electric models use a single electric motor rated at a peak 227 kW, equivalent to roughly 304 horsepower. Fast charging is therefore not being marketed as an isolated premium feature; it sits alongside considerable motor output and long rated range in a vehicle positioned for mainstream families. That combination illustrates how quickly technology once associated with premium EVs is being pushed downward into much lower price brackets in China.

Buyers Can Choose Up to 715 Km of Claimed Range

The electric Alpha T7 is offered with two principal range levels. Depending on configuration, Arcfox lists CLTC ratings of 650 kilometres or as much as 715 kilometres. Reporting from AutoHome lists battery capacities of 72.8 kWh and 84.8 kWh for the respective versions, while Arcfox’s own material highlights the 84.8-kWh pack for its longest-range model. All of the vehicle’s battery cells are supplied by CATL, one of the world’s largest EV-battery manufacturers.

The 715-kilometre number needs context, however. It is measured under China’s CLTC laboratory cycle rather than the EPA procedure used in the United States or WLTP figures commonly quoted in Europe. Actual range can shift substantially with highway speed, weather, heating or air-conditioning use, terrain and driving style. China maintains a formal national testing standard for electric-vehicle energy consumption and driving range, but standardized laboratory results are primarily useful for comparing vehicles tested under the same procedure rather than predicting an identical distance for every driver.

Pricing May Be Just as Important as the Charging Speed

Arcfox launched the Alpha T7 on September 16 with nine configurations spanning battery-electric and extended-range powertrains. After launch subsidies, prices run from 132,800 yuan for the least expensive extended-range version to 168,800 yuan for the highest-priced configuration. The battery-electric lineup starts at 135,800 yuan and reaches 168,800 yuan, putting the SUV squarely into one of China’s most fiercely contested family-vehicle price bands.

Those numbers make the technical specification sheet more striking. Buyers are not being asked to move into the highest reaches of China’s EV market to get an 800-volt platform or a maximum claimed range exceeding 700 kilometres. Arcfox also reduced the vehicle’s entry price relative to its pre-sale offer, with CnEVPost reporting that the subsidized launch starting price was 5,000 yuan lower than originally announced. Price reductions, equipment upgrades and longer range have become routine competitive tools as Chinese manufacturers fight for customers in a market crowded with capable electric SUVs.

There Is Also a 1,315-Km Extended-Range Version

Arcfox is not betting entirely on households ready to abandon gasoline. The Alpha T7 is also available as an extended-range electric vehicle, or EREV. In these versions, a 1.5-litre gasoline engine acts as a range extender alongside an electric drive motor producing up to 200 kW. The company lists a 43.9-kWh battery and a CLTC electric-only range of 320 kilometres, enough on paper to cover many days of ordinary urban driving without starting the gasoline engine.

With the battery charged and the fuel tank filled, Arcfox claims a total CLTC combined range of 1,315 kilometres. The strategy reflects the unusual breadth of China’s electrified market, where battery EVs and plug-in or range-extended vehicles compete side by side. An owner with reliable home charging might spend much of the week operating primarily on electricity, while the gasoline range extender provides additional flexibility for longer journeys or areas where high-speed chargers remain less convenient. Offering both systems also lets Arcfox pursue customers with very different charging habits using essentially the same family SUV.

It Is a Large Five-Seat SUV, Not a Small Budget EV

The Alpha T7’s relatively low pricing does not translate into compact dimensions. Arcfox lists the SUV at 5,020 millimetres long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall, riding on a 3,040-mm wheelbase. That makes it a substantial five-seat vehicle designed to appeal to families seeking generous passenger space rather than a small city-focused EV. Arcfox also claims an interior-space utilization rate of 88.8%.

Cargo capacity reinforces that family focus. The company lists a 200-litre front trunk, unusually large by EV standards, while the rear cargo area provides 645 litres behind the second row. Folding the rear seats expands that space to a claimed 1,845 litres. For a household loading several suitcases, sports gear or a large weekly grocery run, those numbers may ultimately matter more than acceleration statistics. The Alpha T7 is being positioned around the everyday practicality traditionally associated with large gasoline SUVs while using electric-specific packaging to create additional storage under the hood.

The Cabin Leans Heavily Into Screens and AI

Inside, Arcfox has avoided a conventional instrument-cluster layout. The Alpha T7 uses a wide panoramic head-up display measuring about 1.1 metres across the driver’s field of view, complemented by a 17.3-inch central touchscreen. The infotainment hardware uses a 4-nanometre automotive chip with 5G connectivity and supports smartphone integration including Huawei HiCar and Apple CarPlay, according to Arcfox’s product information.

Artificial intelligence is also being woven directly into the cabin experience. Arcfox says the infotainment environment integrates AI capabilities associated with Alibaba’s Qwen and ByteDance’s Doubao models, allowing voice-based vehicle control, navigation assistance and general information requests. Other available comfort equipment includes heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a zero-gravity-style passenger seat, a panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade and an 8.2-litre heating-and-cooling compartment. Taken together, those features demonstrate how Chinese EV competition has expanded well beyond batteries and motors into software, entertainment and increasingly elaborate cabin equipment.

Huawei Technology Extends the Competition to Driver Assistance

Selected Alpha T7 configurations add Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 Pro driver-assistance system. Arcfox says the hardware package incorporates 27 sensing components, including its concealed laser-based sensing equipment, cameras, millimetre-wave radar and ultrasonic sensors. Supported functions include navigation-assisted driving on highways and urban roads as well as automated parking functions intended to handle a wide variety of parking situations.

These remain driver-assistance features rather than a replacement for an attentive driver. Their inclusion is nevertheless significant because advanced sensing suites are increasingly appearing on vehicles far below traditional luxury pricing in China. Arcfox is effectively competing on three technology fronts at once: battery performance, digital-cockpit features and assisted-driving capability. That raises expectations for competing manufacturers. A family shopping for an EV in this price range is no longer comparing only motor power and battery size; software capability, sensors, charging speed and cabin computing have become important parts of the purchase decision as well.

The Alpha T7 Is Entering an Exceptionally Crowded Market

The Alpha T7 arrives at a difficult moment for manufacturers trying to stand out in China. Passenger new-energy vehicles accounted for about 65.2% of Chinese passenger-vehicle retail sales in August 2026, according to China Passenger Car Association data reported by CnEVPost. Roughly 1.005 million passenger NEVs were sold at retail during the month. Yet that total was down about 10% from a year earlier, illustrating how fierce competition can remain even when electrified vehicles dominate the market.

Arcfox must contend with companies including BYD, Geely, Leapmotor and numerous other domestic brands offering rapidly improving electric SUVs. Leapmotor’s refreshed C-series models, for example, have adopted 800-volt architectures while remaining aggressively priced, and BYD’s 2026 Sealion 06 EV offers up to 710 kilometres of CLTC range together with extremely fast claimed charging. The result is an unusually fast product cycle: a headline specification that appears exceptional one year can become expected equipment surprisingly quickly.

The Charging Claim Matters, but the Conditions Matter Too

For consumers, the most useful way to read the Alpha T7’s specifications is to separate laboratory and manufacturer claims from guaranteed everyday outcomes. The 715-kilometre figure is a standardized CLTC result, while the 270 kilometres added in 10 minutes is a claimed fast-charging performance figure. Neither means an owner should expect those exact results in freezing weather, at sustained motorway speeds or from every public charger. Academic research on vehicle test cycles has repeatedly shown that controlled-cycle efficiency and real-world operation can diverge.

Even with that qualification, the direction of travel is notable. Arcfox is offering a five-metre SUV with CATL batteries, an 800-volt electrical system, more than 700 kilometres of standardized range and sophisticated cabin technology at prices that would have seemed extraordinarily aggressive only a few years ago. Arcfox also said the T7 accumulated more than 30,000 locked-in orders within an hour of launch, although that company-reported figure has not been independently audited. The bigger story is not one spectacular charging number—it is how quickly high-end EV technology is becoming ordinary in China.
