These ten EVs earned reputations for poor reliability, proving that not every electric car is ready for long term ownership.

Nissan Leaf (Early Generations)

The first generation Leaf struggled with rapid battery degradation, especially in colder climates. Many owners saw range drop sharply after only a few years which made long commutes unpredictable. The simple air cooled battery could not manage extreme temperatures and lost capacity faster than expected. Despite its affordable price the early Leaf showed how fragile EV tech can be when cooling systems fall short.

Tesla Model S (2012 to 2018)

The early Model S impressed with speed but frustrated owners with drivetrain failures, touchscreen problems and repeated suspension issues. Door handles failed often and the charge port hardware aged quickly. Software updates fixed some bugs but introduced new ones. These cars could be thrilling to drive yet inconsistent to own. Later versions improved but the early years built a strong reputation for unreliability.
