15 Future Car Technologies That Could Reshape Our Roads by 2030

We have all been fascinated by the Batmobile which Batman uses to defeat crime and protect Gotham: Equipped with a high-power engine, heavy armor, variety of weapons, radar system, etc. While that sounds amazing, it might not be feasible. The world is changing rapidly, and we might get flying cars in the next two or three decades. Several other technologies could reshape our roads by 2030:

Hands-free driving

How fortunate would it be for drivers to completely rest back in their seats and leave the vehicle to navigate safely? Technology is undoubtedly advancing, and it is only a short time before we should reach level 5 autonomy in vehicles to figure out stuff themselves completely. Such patterns have been seen in the beta version of Tesla’s Full Driving Self (FSD) system under its autopilot program. There are some concerns regarding this, especially concerning complex road environments and fear of accidents.

ADAS

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are already in full swing, making a significant impact and acting as the predecessor of the futuristic driverless mode. Some features of this system are emergency braking, parking assistance, lane departure, cruise control, etc. These are operated by sensors designed to help drivers in various situations. In an emergency with a collision, the ADAS system automatically applies the brakes to avoid harm. This system gives the driver a sense of protection that the driver can depend on while driving to minimize stress.

Solar-powered Cars

It would be fascinating and convenient if we could depend on the sun’s energy to charge our cars and use it as a primary energy source. It reduces carbon emissions and is a renewable energy source that converts photovoltaic cells into electricity. By 2030, there will surely be a significant leap in this area, with solar panels embedded on the roofs of cars.

Vehicle-to-vehicle communication system

While driving, we depend on directionals and silent gestures, and we occasionally use the horn or resort to yelling for communication. What if none of this was required? With the vehicle-to-vehicle communication system, our cars could pass on information about the traffic ahead, accidents, roadblocks, and even details about the weather. We would live in a world where cars socialize with each other and help each other without any street fights or confusion!

Virtual assistant

There are discussions about artificial intelligence approaching, but people tend to overlook that AI is already here and is here to stay. AI assistants on our electronic devices guide and assist us daily. Incorporating AI in cars would give it a brain of its own. It would start acting as a co-pilot, always looking out for the driver and passengers. To-do list? Call someone? Any music? Notifications? Appointments? Everything will be organized and sorted out by your virtual assistant, who will connect you to emergency helplines.

Self-parking

Most of us agree that parking a vehicle is one of the most challenging jobs for beginners while learning to drive. We fear dents to our cars and the consequences if we accidentally crash them into someone else. With the self-parking feature, we do not need to worry about congested places to park our vehicles, as the wheels will now be in the hands of the cars that will access the area and do what is needed. This combination will use cameras and sensors to identify its surroundings and park the car carefully without causing any damage.

Biometric Authentication System

This system refers to the verification process by identifying a person’s biological characteristics. Instead of using traditional keys to unlock cars, fingerprints or face locks can be used. This technology is widely shared in phones, lockers, and other systems where biometric authentication is frequently used. There may be issues with managing multiple profiles and security concerns, as the system might malfunction. Still, for people who want to bid farewell to keys completely, this is a beneficial option.

Enhanced Driver Personalization

With this system, the vehicle can monitor the driver’s preferences and allow them to create their separate profile. In combination with other systems, such as biometric and virtual assistants, there may be options to load your frequently visited places and boot up your favorite playlist. It records the preferred temperature and will adjust the air conditioner accordingly if the user struggles to catch their breath. This system may also be customized with themes and preferences concerning dark mode, volume, and additional settings.

Distraction Detection

Sometimes, we are too drained out and cannot open our eyelids. Every year, drowsy driving leads to thousands of deaths, which has to be avoided. This system detects if the driver is drowsy by tracking the head and eye movements. If unusual movements are detected, the system will sound an alert, prompting that detection or telling the driver to park and take a break. If necessary, the system will turn off certain features, such as music, which distracts the diver and will request it to refocus the attention.

Wireless Charging

It may not be possible by 2030, but ditching the charging stations and opting for wireless charging would be an excellent idea for electric vehicles. For this purpose, wireless pads can be used for charging, and the car may be left to be charged while it’s parked, just like how we charge our phones with power banks. This will eliminate the hassle of searching for charging stations and cater to our convenience. Wireless charging pads like these may be installed in the garage for personal use, and there is a possibility they might become the new medium.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology

As we head towards a cleaner transportation future, hydrogen fuel cell technology is in the spotlight for the masses. In the fuel cell, hydrogen reacts with oxygen, generating electricity to power the motor. By 2030, if this is implemented, cars will require less time to be refilled and can travel longer driving ranges. This technology can easily replace fossil fuels as it only emits water vapor, reducing its carbon footprint. Cooperation and the government’s aid are required to bring about this change, as these models can be game changers in the automotive industry.

Buttonless Dashboard

Two decades ago, no one could imagine the world would be using a touch screen phone and touch-based systems. This change is bound to happen in cars where all the buttons on the dashboard will be replaced by touch. The dashboard will be voice controlled, requiring no physical knobs for navigation. It will help drivers keep their eyes on the road, providing a user-friendly experience. The car interior would be aesthetic and designed for safety and easy access.

Interior Lighting

The ability to change the interior lighting would boost the ambiance, further personalizing the individual’s experience. The lighting could depend on mood, and the car would be able to incorporate any lights that adhere to the law. The intensity of these lights can be adjusted, and specific colors can be used for different environments. Lights can react to the beat of music or when one is having a mini karaoke session in the car. If the surroundings are dark at night, these interior lights can illuminate the area for a safe exit.

Predictive Maintenance

No one wants their car to break down during a trip, and to avoid this, predictive maintenance is crucial for a smooth and safe driving experience. It would be helpful if our car could alert us about any system damage, break failure, or oil leakage. A lot of time and effort would be saved if these details were addressed to us by car rather than taken to a service center. The car could use advanced technology and algorithms to inform us of even the subtle details that require attention alongside changes in damaged parts.

Augmented Reality

Wouldn’t it be convenient to keep our eyes on the windshield while getting all the information about the navigation, potential hazards, and ongoing updates? This integrated feature would transform the driving experience, overlaying the augmented information on the windshield. Surely, this might be a little too advanced, but it could be toggled at will to avoid any confusion or mislead the driver. The rear seat passengers can utilize this feature to interact with every passing scenery. Information about those places can be derived from public domains or maps, making this system educational and entertaining.

15 Most Reliable Cars Ever Made — Why They Never Quit

Some claim that the dependability of autos has decreased. Modern cars have a shorter lifespan than some cars manufactured between the 1970s and the 1990s, but some new and used cars today are good enough to last for at least ten years and up to 500,000 miles. When these vehicles break down, most problems are relatively simple, and many don’t have serious difficulties. Here are 15 of the most reliable cars ever made: 15 Most Reliable Cars Ever Made — Why They Never Quit
