Canadian Battery Manufacturer Ranks Fourth in Deloitte Growth Awards as U.S. Factory Expansion Advances

Canada’s battery industry is gaining recognition beyond the electric vehicle market, with one Ontario manufacturer emerging as a notable success story. Electrovaya Inc., a Canadian lithium-ion battery technology company, has ranked fourth in Deloitte Canada’s 2026 Technology Fast 50 Enterprise—Industry Leaders category after recording 354% revenue growth over four years.

Announced on November 2, the achievement comes as Electrovaya advances plans to expand manufacturing operations in Jamestown, New York. The company is positioning its battery technology for growing demand from industrial equipment, robotics, defence applications and energy infrastructure. Its latest recognition highlights the potential for Canadian battery innovation to compete internationally, even as manufacturers confront the considerable financial and operational challenges of expanding production.

Electrovaya Secures Fourth Place After 354% Revenue Growth

Electrovaya has earned fourth place in the Enterprise—Industry Leaders category of Deloitte Canada’s 2026 Technology Fast 50 program, recognizing its substantial revenue growth and expanding position in the battery manufacturing industry. The Mississauga-based company recorded 354% revenue growth over a four-year measurement period, marking its fourth consecutive appearance in Deloitte’s technology growth awards. It was also the company’s second consecutive year competing in the Enterprise—Industry Leaders category, which recognizes established businesses demonstrating significant commercial expansion. Eligibility requires companies to have generated at least $10 million in revenue in 2021 and $50 million in 2025. Unlike the main Technology Fast 50 ranking, which focuses on a separate group of high-growth technology businesses, this category highlights larger companies that have already established meaningful revenue streams. For Electrovaya, the recognition reflects its transition from a specialized battery technology developer toward a manufacturer serving increasingly demanding industrial markets.

The latest result builds on previous recognition from Deloitte, although the company’s position has shifted slightly. In 2025, Electrovaya ranked third in the Enterprise—Industry Leaders category with reported revenue growth of 383%, demonstrating that its rapid expansion has continued across successive measurement periods. The change to 354% in 2026 reflects a different rolling four-year comparison and does not, by itself, establish that annual revenue declined. Deloitte’s selection process relies on reported revenue growth, with participating companies required to submit audited or reviewed financial statements. Vancouver-based logistics company UniUni topped the 2026 enterprise category with growth of 2,143%, illustrating the range of businesses competing for recognition. While an award cannot guarantee future profitability or manufacturing success, Electrovaya’s repeated appearances establish a documented record of substantial revenue growth at a time when industrial battery manufacturers are seeking to turn technical innovations into sustainable commercial operations.

Stronger Financial Results and New Commercial Agreements Support Growth

Electrovaya’s recent financial performance provides a clearer picture of the business behind its Deloitte recognition. During fiscal 2025, the company generated record revenue of US$63.8 million, representing a 43% increase from US$44.6 million the previous year. It also reported annual net profit of US$3.3 million, compared with a loss in fiscal 2024. Growth continued into fiscal 2026, with revenue reaching US$51.3 million during the nine months ending June 30, an increase of approximately 18% from the comparable period. The company’s third-quarter gross margin reached a record 34.9%, suggesting improvements in its ability to generate profit from product sales. However, quarterly revenue increased by only 3%, demonstrating that growth has not been uniform. In an October 14 business update, Electrovaya estimated approximately US$71 million in preliminary normalized revenue for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2026. That figure remained unaudited, with finalized results expected in December.

Commercial relationships are another important part of the company’s expansion strategy. In July 2026, Electrovaya announced an agreement with Amazon supporting continued deployment of its Infinity Battery Technology in material-handling equipment, with potential applications in robotics and stationary energy storage. The agreement includes warrants allowing Amazon to acquire additional Electrovaya shares, with full vesting linked to US$280 million in cumulative future purchases. That threshold is not a guaranteed purchase commitment, but it demonstrates how the companies have structured their long-term relationship. More recently, on October 28, Electrovaya announced a strategic supply agreement with Australia’s Janus Electric involving approximately US$26 million in initial battery purchase orders for heavy-duty truck conversions in North America. Deliveries had begun, although the full order value remains conditional on confirmed delivery schedules. Together, these developments illustrate Electrovaya’s efforts to expand beyond its established industrial battery business into additional commercial transportation and energy applications.

Jamestown Factory Expansion Moves Toward Full Battery Production

Electrovaya’s manufacturing expansion in Jamestown, New York, represents one of the most significant investments in its long-term growth strategy. The company owns a 52-acre property that includes an approximately 135,000-square-foot manufacturing facility being developed into a larger battery production operation. Initial battery-system assembly activities began at the site in May 2025, establishing an operating foundation while the company prepared to introduce more advanced cell and module manufacturing capabilities. Progress has continued through 2026, including the completion of specialized dry-room construction and upgrades to electrical and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning infrastructure. In August, Electrovaya began factory acceptance testing for automated lithium-ion cell manufacturing equipment at its supplier’s facility, using production-grade materials and processes. By October 14, module manufacturing equipment had successfully completed acceptance testing and had been approved for delivery, while testing of the cell manufacturing equipment continued. These milestones represent tangible progress, although full commercial cell production had not yet been confirmed.

Financing has played a central role in making the expansion possible. Electrovaya secured a US$50.8 million direct loan from the Export-Import Bank of the United States under its Make More in America initiative, with the financing agreement closed in March 2025. The funding supports manufacturing equipment, engineering and facility development intended to establish additional domestic American battery production capacity. The U.S. agency previously estimated that the project could support approximately 290 American jobs, although that projection should not be confused with positions already created. Electrovaya initially anticipated beginning commercial cell and module production during 2026, but its October update placed the broader manufacturing startup in fiscal 2027, which began on October 1, 2026. The revised timetable highlights the complexity of introducing sophisticated battery production lines, where equipment qualification, installation, process stability and quality control are all essential. For Electrovaya, successfully commissioning the facility could strengthen its access to American customers while preserving its Canadian research and engineering base.

New Battery Technology Opens Opportunities in AI and Industrial Energy Storage

Beyond its manufacturing expansion, Electrovaya is pursuing growth through battery technology designed for demanding commercial environments. Its proprietary Infinity Battery Technology uses ceramic separators, which the company says improve thermal stability and help extend battery life under repeated charging and discharging. These characteristics are particularly important for equipment operating continuously, including warehouse vehicles, automated industrial machinery and specialized transportation systems. Electrovaya reported completing UL 2580 certification for six models of its next-generation high-voltage battery systems during fiscal 2026, supporting the commercialization of products for more demanding applications. The company has also expanded into stationary energy storage with its ElvaPulse 1500 platform, introduced in July 2026. Designed around a 20-foot container, the system provides up to approximately 2.88 megawatt-hours of energy storage and can deliver as much as 7 megawatts of continuous power. This combination is intended for applications requiring substantial power over relatively short periods, including data-centre infrastructure and industrial backup power.

The potential market for these technologies is expanding as artificial intelligence places additional pressure on electricity infrastructure. A June 2026 report from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory estimated that data centres could account for between 9.5% and 15.3% of total U.S. electricity consumption by 2030, depending on future technology and demand trends. Such projections help explain Electrovaya’s interest in providing high-power battery systems for data centres, although rising electricity demand does not automatically translate into guaranteed battery orders. The company is targeting completion of UL 1973 and UL 9540 certification activities for ElvaPulse during the first quarter of calendar 2027, with initial commercial deliveries planned for the second quarter. Those milestones remain dependent on successful testing, manufacturing readiness and customer commitments. Electrovaya’s fourth-place Deloitte ranking recognizes considerable growth already achieved, but its longer-term position will depend on consistently delivering reliable products, expanding production without compromising quality and converting emerging opportunities into profitable business.
